Today was day 3 aboard GOOD DAY for Kevin, Joe, Maria & Ken from Ireland.
After loading up on Sardines & Lookdown livebaits we headed 30 miles down the coast to fish the beaches & rocks for Roosterfish & other Inshore species.
We were in search of a big Rooster in excess of 40” that we could deploy a Satellite Tag to as part of the Gray FishTag Research & Marina Pez Vela 2025 ROOSTERFISH STUDY. We caught 37” & 40” Roosters in the morning but we held out for a bigger specimen & our patience paid off when Kevin hooked into a big Rooster at 3pm. We followed the fish at least 1/2 mile from where we first hooked it and we were all delighted to finally get the fish in the net, everyone knowing it was the perfect candidate for the Satellite Tag. The fish measured 53” and the Tag is set to release after 100 days. We cannot wait to see where the fish travels to continue to add to the data we have gained over our recent years of Sat Tagging Roosterfish. No doubt, the single most difficult fish that our program has studied over the years.
We added a Rock Snapper, Big Eye Jack & Needlefish to the Rooster tally but no luck with the Snook & Tripletails at the beach.
Catch Report
4 Roosterfish 53”, 40”, 37” & 30”
1 Rock Snapper
1 Big Eyed Jack
1 Needlefish
Maintenance day tomorrow & back at it on Thursday for day 4!
