The plan was to carve the day up into 4 segments to give the day some variety and increase our chances of putting the guys on the fish. We departed Marina Pez Vela shortly after 5.30am and headed to an Offshore reef to fish for Wahoo, Tuna & Dorado. Despite arriving early & being the first boat there the fish did not really want to play ball and we caught 2 small YF Tuna quickly but nothing after that.
Then we switched things up & did some bottom fishing in 300-350’ at a couple of Captain Manuel’s bottom fishing spots. We caught 4 Groupers and plenty of other bottom species such as Grunts, Tilefish, Split Tail Bass, Lizard Fish & Devil Fish.
After the bottom fishing we pushed out to the Sailfish grounds & quickly released 2 Sailfish from 3 bites, one of the fish was in the 100lb range which put up an excellent fight, stripping line Marlin fashion and what a fish to catch for his first ever Billfish for our young guest.
With a couple of hours remaining we went for broke and headed out into deeper water of 1000-2000’ in search of bigger tuna that accompany the megapods of Spinner Dolphins. We searched hard but no luck on
that front unfortunately.
Catch report for the day:
2 for 3 Sailfish
2 Tuna
4 Grouper
Plus a host of Tile Fish, Grunts, Devil Fish, Lizard Fish & Split Tail Bass
Oil change tomorrow & then back
out on Wednesday.
We have 3 days available this week if anyone would like to go Fishing!
