ROOSTER FISHING & MARLIN FAD FISHING COSTA RICA
Despite some funky weather earlier this week we managed to get some Fishing in and great to have David, Mike, Kevin & last but not least, the star of the show & our onboard entertainment, Skinny. A living legend, with non stop laughs from perhaps the youngest 65 year old on the planet!
During day 1 we enjoyed some great Rooster fishing & the guys caught 6 nice Roosters between 39-44”, all of which were tagged for Gray FishTag Research
We spent time at a couple of Rivermouths hoping for a Snook, Snapper or a Tripletail but no action at the Rivermouths, there was a lot of fresh water coming out from the recent rains.
Day 1 - Catch Report:
6 Roosters
1 nice sized Mackerel
Day 2 - we skipped the morning due to the wind but we got an afternoon’s fishing in once it laid down and headed 20 miles Offshore to do some deep dropping hoping for some nice sized Silky Snapper & Snowy Grouper. We tried a few different spots from 280-320’ but it never really came together & we didn’t have the success we normally would on an Offshore bottom fishing trip, ending up with:
1 Grouper
2 Tile Fish
2 Devil Fish
1 Moray Eel
The guys headed offshore this evening aboard the 58’ HOG WILD for a 3 day/4 night (36 hours Fishing!) Trip to our Marlin FADs & Seamounts which are 60-100+ miles offshore. Fingers crossed they get on some great Marlin fishing out there & tick off some bucket list Marlin. Best of luck to Mike who is hoping to catch one on the Fly!
Our Marlin FAD & Roosterfish combos have become really popular these past few years. May-August is the peak time. Fish 1-3 days with us aboard GOOD DAY for Roosters, Cuberas, Wahoo & our other nearshore species and then head Offshore on a 42-58’ Sportfisher for several days chasing the best Marlin Fishing on the planet, where upwards of 10 Marlin bites per day are possible when the bite is on.
Big shout & huge thanks to all of our supporters & sponsors for their fantastic help throughout the season with great products: Fish Seaguar, Gray Taxidermy, Accurate Fishing, Colorado Lures, Squidnation, American Fishing Wire, Backwater Fly Fishing, Marina Pez Vela, Jackpot Sport Fishing & Quepos Tackle Shop.
We have a new group starting tomorrow & are doing 1 day or Inshore & 1 day of Offshore, can’t wait to get back out there - wish us luck!
