Another successful weekend here at Marina Pez Vela as 32 boats set out for yesterday’s Sailfish Slam. This is a 1 day fun tournament that is going from strength to strength these past few years & yesterdays event broke the record for number of boats in this event. With prizes for most sailfish releases for big boats & small boats, most Marlin, top lady, top junior & top first time angler, there was plenty to play for, for all involved.
Team Master Baiters: Mike, Bryan & Ryan joined us aboard GOOD DAY as we set out to compete against the other small boats in the under 36’ boat division.
After a slow morning with just 1 Sailfish released from 3 bites Captain Manuel told us to pull the lines in about 11am & we motored further offshore in the hopes of some better action. This move paid off and we caught 4 Sailfish in succession & a 5th a short while later bringing our tally to 6 Sailfish releases for the day.
The small boat division proved to be super close with only 2 fish separating the top 6 boats. Whilst 1st, 2nd & 3rd placed boats all caught 6 Sailfish we were lucky to get the win based on time, having caught our final fish before the others did. You always need some luck in these events.
In the big boat division congrats to Sandra D who caught 24 Sailfish to win the big boats, followed by Anticipation with 20 Sailfish & Game Plan with 19 Sailfish.
32 boats caught 268 Sailfish in 8 hours of fishing. There were zero Marlin caught yesterday but our buddies aboard Swordfish missed a big one. We also caught a nice Tuna which didn’t count but the guys were delighted to get some dinner.
Huge thanks to the tournament team at Ifish Marina Pez Vela for another great event, see you next year!
