Our friends aboard the 46' CARIBSEA has just returned from another EPIC Offshore trip to the famed FADS & Seamounts here in Costa Rica. This journey took place over 3 nights with 2 full days of fishing time (24 hours). The sole purpose of this trip was to achieve perhaps the ultimate goal in Fly Fishing, catching a Blue Marlin on Fly. None of the Anglers aboard had ever released a Marlin on Fly before but the guys were ready for the challenge. Our previous Marlin Fly Fishing trip to the FADs & Seamounts resulted in the release of 1 Striped Marlin and 2 Blue Marlin that were lost after successful hookups. 8 Marlin were raised in total during just 1 day of Fishing. So it was all to play for on this trip with fishing taking place on 12-13 September 2018.
Thankfully conditions were perfect, the fish were hungry and the Anglers got to witness the worlds best Blue Marlin Fishing play out right in front of their eyes.
Over the 2 days fishing, 27 Blue Marlin were raised, 11 of those fish were successfully hooked with the Anglers winning the battle on 3 of those fish to successfully get the release. To successfully release 3 Blue Marlin on Fly, all of which on IGFA 20lb class tippet, is no easy feat and a huge congratulations to the Anglers! May to November are peak months for Marlin FAD Fly Fishing trips or you can Fly Fish for Sailfish and the occasional Marlin during single day charters during any month of the year, Nov to April is billed as peak season, however, this year proved that this is not always true as we have some fantastic Marlin, Sailfish and meatfish (Dorado & Tuna) fishing from May to August also. Time to check that Marlin on the Fly off your bucket list, Tight Lines!
