Safe to say mission accomplished with 5 nice Roosterfish caught plus Cubera Snapper, Jacks & Needlefish.
We were delighted to recapture a tagged Roosterfish, a 36” fish of approx 20lb, that coincidentally we had tagged 3 miles further south 6 weeks ago. In 6 years of tagging fish regularly, this is the first time we have recaptured one of fish we have previously tagged. We have recaptured fish tagged by other boats but never one of our own so this was very cool for us. Details have been sent to our friends at Gray FishTag Research to go into the wider Roosterfish tagging study. We Satellite tagged a Roosterfish back in February with a 4 month Satellite tag & can’t wait to see the movements of that fish once we get full details. We have the next phase of our Roosterfish tagging study in April where we hope to Satellite Tag another Roosterfish with the help of The Fisherman Magazine & Gray Fishtag Research. We are learning that some fish travel far & some stay local but it would be great to see more patterns to continue to help build our understanding of the movements of this iconic fish.
