10th June - Catch Report:
9 Sailfish
9 Dorado
6 Tuna
1 Wahoo
1 Rainbow Runner
The Reef fishing for Wahoo, football sized Tuna and Dorado is just great right now. After that we pushed further out to Fish what has been the best Sailfish bite in recent years. We caught 9 Sailfish in around 3 hours, raising a ton more. Chris especially enjoyed the 30 minute battle he had with a stubborn Sailfish he caught on a Spinning Rod.
Then for the final couple of hours of the day, we got the Fly Rod out in our attempt to complete the ‘BILLFISH TACKLE SLAM’, with Sailfish caught on Conventional, Spinning & Fly! The bite slowed a bit but we raised 6 Sailfish whilst Fly fishing, getting 3 good shots on fish.....but no luck on the hookups unfortunately (just a bit of bad luck, but that’s fishing!).
In the final minutes of the day whilst Fly Fishing, we raised a double Sailfish, both Fish teased perfectly, Chris made the cast and then the bad luck struck - the tip of his Fly Rod came off and flew into the water and then he got an almighty knot in the Fly line, wedged in between the rod guides. We kept the Sailfish on the teaser for what seemed like an eternity (1 minute is a long time in teaser fishing!) but by the time we got the Rod back together, the tangle out of the Fly line and Chris got another cast in, the fish faded off after just a brief look at the Fly. One of those moments you just have to laugh about, otherwise you might cry. The commissoratory Beer tasted good though!
A simply stunning day to be out there and congrats to Chris on his PB Wahoo!
