We had 10 trips aboard GOOD DAY during June with a mixture of Offshore & Inshore fishing. We had some awesome family trips with young children and it was great to see some of the kids catching their first ever fish. We had an epic Black Marlin battle on 18 June with 73 year old Robert Howerton who fought the fish for 2 hours, 10 minutes before the line broke on the 30lb class Sailfish outfit, ouch! The Marlin bite was consistent throughout June with Blue & Black Marlin being seen/caught by at least one boat most days.
The Yellow Fin Tuna bite returned towards the end of June and honeymooner Eddie Krauth had a fantastic day catching 5 Tuna up to 66lb and his first ever Sailfish. There were 80-100lb Tuna landed by other boats in the fleet and a REALLY BIG Tuna lost at the gaff late June. After May was quiet for Sailfish it was good to see them return in June where we caught Sailfish on 3 trips in succession. 11 year old Leo & 15 year old Jarad hooked into a double header of Sailfish on 29 June, Leo landing his first ever Sailfish and Jarad unfortunately losing his after 15 minutes on the line.
We seen more Mahi in June than we have all year and we expect the numbers to continue to increase in July.
Roosterfish & Snook continue to be caught inshore with Snappers, a few Tripletails and Corvinas also.
We got a real treat on our final charter of the month when we seen our first Humpback Whales of the season. We encountered a mother and a calf in the morning and then another mother and calf in the afternoon. The Tuna ran a mile when the Whales turned up but really stunning to see and we look forward to more sightings in July & August.
