We have just returned from a fantastic Offshore trip with Geoff & Patty from Baltimore.
Geoff is an avid Fly Fisherman who loves Fishing for Bonefish but today had set his sights on catching his first Sailfish or Marlin. The rain was torrential when we left the Marina & it would have been easy to call the trip off but Geoff & Patty wanted to brave the conditions & what a great decision that was!
Once we were 15 miles offshore we left the rain behind and it didn't rain again all day until we headed back to land.
Within 20 minutes of setting the lines we raised a Sailfish which Geoff caught & was delighted with his first ever Sailfish! Minutes later Patty was into a good Mahi Mahi which she landed. So the day had barely started and we had dinner taken care of and Geoff's first Billfish.
We then found an excellent current break and colour change at around 22 miles. We worked this break and had non stop Mahi action for the following few hours, catching 9 Mahi, losing 3 and raising around 15.
We were unlucky to lose a Blue Marlin which put on an excellent couple of jumps before throwing the hook!
Final tally of an excellent day on the water:
9 for 15 on Mahi
1 for 1 on Sailfish
0 for 1 on Marlin
And we were back in the Marina by 2pm!
Great to have Geoff & Patty aboard GOOD DAY and hope to see them back in Costa Rica in the future!
