We have just finished 2 days Fishing aboard GOOD DAY with John & Steve from Colorado/California joining us.
During day 1 yesterday, we had a little bit of bad luck, we certainly had the shots to make it a great day but some missed/lost fish got in the way of that.
We fished out to 41 miles and had encounters with Blue Marlin, Sailfish & Tuna.
The Tuna were feeding on Flying fish and were moving very quickly but giving us some amazing aerial displays with 80-100lb+ fish clearing the water in pursuit of the Flying fish. We got two bites on Islander/ballyhoo combos from really nice sized Tuna (80-100lb) but narrowly missing out on the hook ups.
Steve then hooked a Blue Marlin in the 150-180lb range which put on a great show for us. After about 20 minutes the leader was about 10 feet away and the fish went on one final run with a flurry of jumps near the boat. I swear the only floating tree branch within in a mile was just behind the boat and the Marlin ran directly towards it cutting the line on the branch in an instant. So super close on the release but Steve had a blast fighting the fish all the same.
We hooked a second Blue Marlin which unluckily came undone almost immediately and it was great to finally get a Billfish to the boat when John tagged & released a Sailfish for Gray FishTag Research It has been pretty slow on the Billfish front so good to see both Marlin/Sails yesterday.
Catch Report - Day 1
1 for 2 Sailfish
0 for 2 Blue Marlin
0 for 2 Tuna
Day 2 - Inshore
We headed Inshore with the guys today in search of some Roosterfish & hopefully something for dinner.
John was delighted to catch his first ever Roosterfish to get the trip off to a nice start. We added a Jack and missed/lost a few other suspected Roosters. We changed things up & headed 15 miles out to do some deep dropping in 400’ for Groupers, managed to get dinner taken care of & added a few more species to the tally.
Catch Report - day 2
1 Roosterfish
1 Jack
1 Grouper
1 Shark
3 Grunts
3 Moray Eels
We only have a handful of trips left now before this season draws to a close but we’ll be back out there tomorrow!
