Matt & Jesse from Florida joined us yesterday aboard GOOD DAY.
We got off to a great start when Matt hooked his first ever Blue Marlin which went on an exhilarating run and quickly peeled 400 yards of line of one of our
Shimano North America Fishing
Tiagra 50s. After a great fight with everything going perfect and the leader just 20 feet from the boat, a few late shakes from the Marlin’s head and it managed to throw the hook! Amazing experience for Matt but just narrowly missed out on the release.
Jesse then released a solid Sailfish which we tagged & released for
Gray FishTag Research
. Congrats on hopefully her first Sailfish of many! Jesse is no stranger to Costa Rica and fished the ladies
Pescadora Billfish Championship
last year, having a blast learning the craft of Billfishing.
The bad luck continued for Matt, through no fault of his own, we lost more than
5 Sailfish over the next few hours and we missed a few more bites too. We checked to make sure the hooks were not rubber and searched the boat for bananas or a black cat (Gato negro) but there was no sign of either.
Thankfully we have the guys back today and fingers crossed for a great day, they fish hard are great people and deserve it!
