What an excellent week it has been and I can't quite believe it's the fourth & final day of the Offshore World Championships in Quepos already. Some amazing memories and new friendships made with fellow Anglers from around the world.
Today was a really special day as we welcomed a superb ground of people aboard 'Good Day'. Papa, Julian, Claritta & Xavier all the way from Vanuatu in the South Pacific, representing the Vanuatu Marlin Classic tournament which they won in 2015 with an impressive 4 Marlin!
For me personally it was great to have these guys aboard as myself & my Wife Cathy visited Vanuatu in 2015, had some excellent fishing including catching a 450lb Blue Marlin and really fell in love with the country and the Vanuatu people.
Today we fished a marked known as La Bolsa around 22-24 miles off Quepos and after a slow day yesterday it was great to see a few more fish around today. We raised 13 Sailfish, had bites from 11 and released 1. We were very unlucky on several fish, the guys did a great job hooking them only for lines to break, hooks to pull etc etc.
We missed 1 Wahoo who shredded our baits for the second day running which is good to see a few more of those about as our water temperatures drop.
Late in the afternoon I caught sight of a Humpback whale in the distance and sat watching him for a while blow spray into the sky each time he came up for to breath. A very fun day on the water with new friends made and I hope to see them back in Costa Rica again some day.
I am sad to see the tournament come to a close but have learned a lot this week & look forward to next years Offshore World Championship. Myself, Manuel & Michael are now looking looking forward to a few beers and a well deserved rest for a couple of days!
