Yesterday was the 3rd & final day aboard GOOD DAY for Scott & Allen from New York.
We live baited the reef for a Marlin for the first few hours & nearly struck gold when a Marlin came in and sent our Bonitos crazy and had them doing circles & jumping out of the water, at one point the Marlin showed itself, head, bill & tail out of the water but it would just not commit & ultimately faded off. We stumbled upon the mother load of Bonitos working in a Huge bait ball on the surface, something we have been seeing a lot over the past 6 weeks or so. We slow trolled our live baits around the school & BAM, hooked up…we thought this was it, the Marlin the boys had been dreaming of until a 6-7 foot Shark comes leaping out of the water. After a couple of minute fight it bit through the leader & was gone.
We switched to the troll & moved to deeper water, after a slow couple of hours trolling all hell broke loose when a pack attack of Sailfish hit the spread, chaos ensued for a minute with 3 Sailfish tearing up the teasers and as quick as they came, they were gone. We worked that area for a good while & did not get another sniff.
Capt. Manuel Gabuardi made a 12 mile run late in the day to a school of Tuna and the guys caught 2 Tuna up to 30lbs and lost a couple more. We missed a fish of about 80lbs on a big Squid and had amazing scenes of big Tuna crashing the surface everywhere which was a cool way to end the trip.
Heading back out there now, wish us luck!
