Today was a pretty epic day aboard GOOD DAY with Michael & Molly from Miami.
During the first 5 minutes of the day, Michael hooked his dream Sailfish on the Fly. After losing a Sail on the Fly yesterday, to get a second chance so early into his second & final day was just the perfect start. Whilst the tease, cast and hookup all went perfect, a nail biting 30 minutes ensued until I finally grabbed the fishes Bill when it was boatside. To say that Michael was over the moon is an understatement, this fish meant so much to him and he has dreamt of a Billfish on the Fly for years. Huge congrats & just a perfect start to the day!
A few miles further out there were Tuna with a megapod of Spinner Dolphins, the guys caught 3 Tuna up to 40lbs and we left them biting to pursue the Billfish on Fly mission and we had all sights set on looking for a Marlin.
And to our surprise it came! A Blue Marlin knocked down the short teaser and teased nicely, grabbing the teaser bait hard several times until literally about 5 seconds before Michael was going to make his cast when at the last moment it turned and moved away. It continued to show us his fins for a little while as he moved out the back of our spread & paid no attention to the other baits still left in the water, before disappearing. So near, yet so far. Those that know, know. To catch a Marlin on Fly is no easy feat and Michael was humbled to see the opportunity, even though it did not work out.
After a midday lull, Molly then got back in the action adding a Sailfish to the couple of Tuna she caught and then we closed out the day with a Dorado for Michael.
Catch report:
2 for 3 on Sailfish (1 on Fly)
Raised a Blue Marlin
3 Tuna to 40lb
1 Dorado
A great couple of days fishing with the loveliest couple where they released 6 Sailfish in total plus Tuna & Dorado. We hope to see them back aboard GOOD DAY again soon!
