We have Scott, Shelly, Lindy & Colt visiting from Idaho this week and fishing in Costa Rica with us for 3 days aboard GOOD DAY.
Day 1 - 27 June
3 Tuna & 2 Sailfish
After a slow start the fish finally started biting and 9 year old Colt & 12 year old Lindy caught & released their first ever Sailfish, both fish were tagged for Gray FishTag Research
Then in the final hour of the day we added 3 nice Tuna to the tally and missed/lost a few more including 1 really nice Tuna. We seen 3 species of Dolphins and had some incredible scenes of humdreds of Birds kamikaze diving into Bait Balls that the Dolphins were also feasting on too. Sailfish could be seen attacking the Bait Balls right alongside the Dolphins & all this happening right next to the boat. We have been seeing these scenes for the past month or so & very cool to see up close and personal, catching a fish is a bonus!
Day 2 - 28 June
Todays initial plan was for a Tuna mission & we spent the first hour gathering enough Blue Runners live bait which proved to be hard work today. We decided to make a pass at one of the Offshore Reefs to try for a Wahoo on the way out to the Tuna grounds. We caught 1 Wahoo, lost and missed a few fish (likely Dorado, small Tuna) but then the weather took a turn for the worse and the Seas got big, narrowing our options for the day. None of the other boats had found Tuna out further so we stuck to the Reef, managed to catch 3 perfect sized Bonito Livebait’s and swam these for a couple of hours in the hope of a Black Marlin. No luck on that front today unfortunately but the anticipation of this style of Fishing gives you goosebumps every time the outrigger pops or clicker sounds, you could be one bite away from a fish of a lifetime.
It ended up being a tough old day with just the Wahoo landed and we headed back to the comfort of the Marina before the rain set in...oh & did it rain when we got in!!
Fingers crossed for a better day on Sunday when the guys fish their 3rd & final day! 🤞
Roosterfish hunting with Vernon & Jacob tomorrow!
