After a week in the boat yard & the small matter of an engine replacement, it was REALLY nice to be back fishing again yesterday!
What a day to be on the water as my good friend Gene joined us to celebrate his 70th birthday together with his family who are visiting from California.
Early in the morning at 15 miles we found a floating FAD loaded with Bonitos, Blue Runners, mini Dorados, Trigger fish and a few sharks. It looked just PERFECT for a Marlin so we quickly loaded up on Bonitos and started Live Baiting for a Marlin. Within the first 10 minutes our baits got sharked a couple of times and then we put a Sailfish in the air as it threw our Bonito, just as that was happening another Sail came in for of the other Livebait’s but did not finish the job. It was a good start and prospects looked good to try & get Gene his dream Birthday Marlin. We stuck at it but after 3 hours and no sign of the Marlin we were looking for, we pushed out to some Tuna that were at 25 miles. Mike caught a nice 30 pounder and then we lost a nice Tuna mid fight and missed a few more on jigs and Livebait’s.
We put another Sailfish in the air just outside the Tuna school which was very cool as he lept clean out of the water after giving our ballyhoo a whack but no hookup unfortunately.
So not lots of Fish to report but lots of laughs, engine running great and an excellent day had by all!
