Yesterday we had the Manhart family from
Florida & California aboard GOOD DAY for a half day Inshore fishing in Costa Rica. We got 9 bites from Jacks, Mackerel, Needlefish & possibly a Roosterfish and were unlucky to lose a few fish aswell as several bit off leaders from the Mackerel. We stayed out longer & literally did not want to go back to the Marina but sometimes you just have to accept that today is not the day and that the fish gods have won. Catch report - zilch!! This was our first skunk/blank day for the current season which started on 1st November! Always a horrible feeling but it is fishing after all & not catching! Thankfully, the weather was great, scenery along the coastline was beautiful and the guys enjoyed their time on the water!
After our super slow day yesterday, today we headed offshore fishing in Costa Rica in search of Billfish & Tuna with Gary from Texas.
Within 5 minutes of putting the lines in the water we had a triple Sailfish in the spread!! We caught 2 of the fish and the other played with our teaser but would not eat a bait! Just about the perfect start after the previous day! The Sailfish bite proved to be excellent today and there were birds, dolphins and Baitballs everywhere. We were marking Baitballs from 20 foot under the boat, right down to the bottom at some points, which was 300 feet deep schools of bait.
Gary went on to release 6 Sailfish, we pulled the hooks on 3 more and raised around 12-13 Sailfish in total plus a couple of missed Dorado bites.
Two tags deployed for Gray FishTag Research supporting the research effort!
Back out there tomorrow, wish us luck!
